Today: fudge and singing!
Today I’m picking up a new endeavor. I’m going to go do some recording at a local place called The Fudgery, where people make fudge in a most over-the-top manner. These employees stir, fold and toss fudge as they make it right before customers’ eyes. They sing and entertain. I will be interviewing employees and people in the crowd. I hope to have a little audio piece cobbled together by the end of the weekend.
This should satisfy the challenge given to me to talk to total strangers.
Check back for some audio and photos.

Unwinding after initial interview
This entry is probably going to read a bit like a journal, my friends, so if you are expecting something literary or polished, you won’t find it here. I’m unwinding from last night.
I am looking into writing my Second Attempt about gay conversion therapy and attempts. Last night I met with someone sound out this Second Attempt.

My Second Attempt?
This Thursday night I am meeting with a man who went through homosexual conversion therapy (that’s therapy where you are conditioned/treated/trained to go from having homosexual thoughts and desires to heterosexual thoughts and desires). I’m nervous to speak with this total stranger about something so personal and powerful, but I really just want to go there and hear his story. I want to know what life was like before his therapy and what made him decide to do it. I want to know what the therapy was like and how he felt during it. I want to know what life is like now and whether he feels like he is cured or if it is something he fights constantly.
If this goes well, I’d like this to be my Second Attempt. We will see.

The First Attempt: the basics
Well, folks, I have made a decision. My First Attempt will be based on my maternal grandfather Paul Green. My mother’s father passed away three years ago, and his life and passing were larger than life in many ways. His life story is quite a bit like the film Big Fish : he told numerous tall tales, and it was very hard to parse the fact from the fantasy.

Maybe this field is oversaturated
I know I’m not a broadcast journalism expert. I didn’t go to school for it. I didn’t study it for years and years. I’ve never interned at KPLRWXMAZ or whatever local radio station for which people intern. I know all this.
